PdfHook – PDF Reader, Merge, Split & Convert
Summary
PdfHook – PDF Reader, Merge, Split & Convert does not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising SDK of any kind built into this extension. Data you create while using the extension — such as entries, notes, settings or history — is stored locally in your own browser using the browser's built-in extension storage, and stays on your device unless you explicitly export it yourself.
What data is stored, and where
All data the extension needs to function is saved locally, on your device, using your browser's Extension Storage API (and, for some extensions, IndexedDB for larger files). This data is:
- Never transmitted to PdfHook or to any third party
- Never used for advertising or analytics
- Removed automatically if you uninstall the extension or clear your browser's extension data
Permissions this extension requests, and why
- storage (Required) — Save your data (settings, entries, history) locally in your browser using the standard Extension Storage API.
- sidePanel (Required) — Display the extension in the browser's side panel.
- activeTab (Required) — Temporarily access the tab you're currently viewing, only when you interact with the extension (e.g. click the toolbar icon), to read the page's URL or capture what's visible.
- tabs (Required) — Read basic information about your open tabs (such as the URL of the active tab) so the extension can detect relevant content, such as a PDF or a YouTube video, open in the current tab.
- unlimitedStorage (Required) — Remove the default size limit on local storage, so larger histories or files (like saved PDFs) can be kept on your device.
(Optional — requested only when needed) — Fetch the specific PDF file you choose to open from the site hosting it. This is requested only for the site you're opening a file from, at the moment you ask to open it — not for every site up front.
How this extension behaves
PdfHook detects when the PDF you're currently viewing in a browser tab can be opened in the reader, and — only when you tap 'Open here' — fetches that file directly from the site it's hosted on, using your browser, to display it. This is why the extension may ask for permission to access that site; the request is scoped to the specific site you're opening a PDF from, and PdfHook does not browse or read other tabs or sites. PDFs you open, add to your library, merge, split or otherwise edit are processed entirely on your device using a local PDF engine and are stored in your browser's local database (IndexedDB) if you choose to save them to your library. No PDF content is ever uploaded to any server.
Third-party services
See 'How this extension behaves' above for the specific, limited network requests this extension makes on your behalf, all of which are initiated directly by your browser and none of which route through a PdfHook server.
Children's privacy
This extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because no data is collected in the first place, there is no personal information of any user, including children, retained by PdfHook.
Data retention and deletion
Since all data stays in your browser's local storage, you control it directly: clear it from the extension's own Settings/Export screen (where offered), or remove it entirely by uninstalling the extension. PdfHook has no copy of your data to retain or delete, because none is ever sent to us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Continued use of the extension after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
